Secure EV Charging POS Payment Solution for Commercial Stations | Card Payment & AUTH System

In the payment process for new energy vehicle charging stations, bank card payments via POS terminals are the mainstream method that balances payment security and convenience.

The process consists of two key stages: pre-authorization (AUTH) and post-authorization (POST AUTH), and is carried out through the coordinated efforts of the charging station, the POS terminal, and the banking system.

Step 1: User Initiates Charging and Starts the Payment Process

The user correctly inserts the charging gun into the new energy vehicle’s charging port, taps the “Start Charging” button on the charging station’s touchscreen, and proceeds to the payment method selection screen.

This prevents the risk of unauthorized charging.

Step 2: Choose your Payment Method: POS Card Payment

From the myriad of payment methods in the charging station screen, the user clicks on card payment (debit or credit card) and the transaction is processed by the charging station integrated POS terminal.

This plan is convenient for those who are novice in online payment or value real-time fund monitoring; payment information is directly connected with the bank’s clearing system, providing more security.

Step 3: POS Pre-Auth Hold (AUTH)—Temporary Fund Control

The POS terminal talks to the bank, and a pre-authorization hold is placed on the money.

Here’s how it works:

Send the pre-authorization request:

The charging station’s internal POS terminal calculates the charging cost according to vehicle’s battery capacity and estimated charging time, then it submits a pre-authorization request to the bank’s system to hold the estimated amount.

Bank Fund Freeze:

As the user uploads the invoice to the bank, a bank is freezing the estimated charging cost in the user’s bank account.

These are just funds that are frozen and not yet debited, even though the user's available balance has already been reduced by that amount.

Freeze Feedback Result:

After finishing the processing of bank, Bank sends a pre-authorization success response to POS, at the same time, POS shows a message on charging station screen for informing user.

Step 4: The EXEC Step

When the pre-authorization freeze is successful, the charging station starts immediately charging.

In this process, the station system also continuously monitors the charging current and voltage, and calculates in time power and cost of corresponding real-time power and cash, the running charging situation and power are displayed at the same time; users can know the charging process in this process).

Step 5: Charging Termination and Settlement Preparation

Charging termination takes place in two cases:

First, the user manually stops the charging by pressing the “Stop Charging” button on the screen of charging station;

Charging stop starts on its own:

The system will terminate charging itself once the vehicle battery is fully charged.

Once charging is terminated in any way, the system immediately stops metering electric energy, the final actual overall cost of this charging session is computed, and the system waits for the next formal charge.

Step 6: POS Pre-authorization Completion (POST AUTH) Actual Funds Deduction

The detailed process is as follows:

Initiate payment request:

Based on actual charging costs calculated by the system, the POS sends a payment (pre-authorization completion namely actual payment) to the bank for the completion of pre-authorization.

Bank finally deduct the money:

The bank deducts from the user amount of frozen money = the actual charging cost, and pays the charging station operator.

Revocation of the excess part of frozen money:

If the pre-frozen money is more than the actual charging fee, the rest of the frozen money exceeds a user’s bank card at credit.com, and it the user’s account balance in real-time.
